CGH Earth Saha has opened Isai Karai, a five-room boutique bungalow in Mahabalipuram, just 50 metres from the shores of the Bay of Bengal. The name translates to “musical shore,” a fitting reference to the property’s setting amid one of Tamil Nadu’s most storied coastal towns.
The retreat is spread across a three-bedroom main residence and a separate two-bedroom unit, suited to both individual travellers and small groups. Interiors draw from the region’s artistic heritage, with locally sourced stone, curated art and rooms inspired by surrounding flora. The kitchen focuses on Tamil coastal cooking, with fresh seafood and poolside barbecues forming the heart of the dining experience.
Mahabalipuram’s landmarks sit close by, including the UNESCO-listed Shore Temple and the rock relief of Arjuna’s Penance. The town also offers active pursuits, from surfing on its beaches to exploring local sculpture schools where the tradition of stone carving remains very much alive.
Isai Karai positions itself as a thoughtful base for guests seeking heritage, coast and quiet in equal measure.
