Delhi government to set up dedicated PMU to boost tourism development

janvier 5, 2026

The Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi has approved the creation of a dedicated Project Management Unit (PMU) to strengthen tourism planning, execution, and coordination across the city. The initiative aims to enhance Delhi’s visitor experience while accelerating investment and infrastructure development in the tourism sector.

The Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) has floated a tender to appoint a consulting firm to establish and operate the PMU. The engagement will be for an initial period of three years, extendable by up to two years based on performance. The project is estimated to cost ₹2 crore per year, excluding GST.

The PMU will support tourism-related policy formulation, infrastructure planning, branding, investment facilitation, and inter-departmental coordination. Its mandate includes preparing policies, standard operating procedures, detailed project reports, and implementation frameworks for tourism initiatives spanning heritage and experiential tourism, festivals, city tours, MICE, medical tourism, cruise and water-based tourism, digital initiatives, and the emerging concert economy.

The unit will also benchmark global and domestic best practices, identify infrastructure gaps, and assist in public-private partnership models. On the investment front, it will engage with hospitality players and industry stakeholders to facilitate projects such as hotels, convention centres, event venues, and heritage activation initiatives.

According to DTTDC, the PMU is expected to strengthen institutional capacity, streamline approvals, and enable structured, time-bound delivery of tourism projects, positioning Delhi as a more competitive and visitor-friendly destination.
