IndiGo has launched commercial operations from Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, introducing direct flights to nine key Indian cities, including Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Goa. This strategic expansion marks IndiGo’s second operational hub in the National Capital Region (NCR) after Delhi Airport.
With nearly 70 weekly departures, the airline now connects Hindon to Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Goa, Indore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna and Varanasi.
This move is aimed at reducing congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and offering a more convenient alternative for travellers based in Ghaziabad, Noida, East and Central Delhi, and Western Uttar Pradesh.
The launch ceremony was attended by Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who highlighted the airport’s growing importance under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme. “With increasing passenger footfall at Hindon, we’re working to expand the terminal building. I congratulate IndiGo on this milestone in enhancing regional connectivity,” he said.
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers added: “This launch offers travellers the option of flying from an airport closer to home. We’re grateful to the Civil Aviation Minister for his support and presence at the inauguration.”
Originally developed under the UDAN scheme, Hindon Airport is now playing an increasingly vital role in serving the NCR’s aviation needs. The launch enhances accessibility to business hubs, leisure destinations, and pilgrimage centres, offering point-to-point travel convenience for a wide range of travellers.
