IndiGo Launches Direct Mumbai–Manchester Flights, Enters Long-Haul Market

July 2, 2025

IndiGo has officially launched its first-ever direct long-haul service, connecting Mumbai with Manchester, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s global expansion plans. Operating three times a week, the new route introduces long-haul operations into IndiGo’s portfolio as part of its international growth strategy, ‘Towards New Heights and across New Frontiers’.

The route will be served by Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft under a damp-lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways. Each aircraft offers a two-class layout, including 56 IndiGoStretch seats and 282 Economy seats, all equipped with seatback entertainment. Passengers will be offered complimentary hot meals inspired by Indian regional cuisine.

“As we embark on our long-haul journey with the launch of direct flights between Mumbai and Manchester, this moment marks our transition from a successful regional carrier to one with growing global relevance,” said Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo. “This milestone is also a reflection of IndiGo’s growing global ambition and its contribution to India’s emergence as a global aviation hub. We are confident that this route will not only serve the large diaspora but also strengthen the economic and cultural ties between the two countries.”

Flight Schedule (local times):

  • 6E 0031: Departs Mumbai at 04:25, arrives in Manchester at 10:05 (Tue, Thu, Sat)
  • 6E 0032: Departs Manchester at 12:05, arrives in Mumbai at 01:55 (next day)

The new service supports IndiGo’s broader international push. In May, the airline announced plans to add 10 international destinations in FY25, including London, Athens, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Siem Reap, expanding its global footprint to 50 international cities.

With over 430 aircraft and 2,300+ daily flights, IndiGo connects more than 90 domestic and 40 international locations. It plans to introduce 100+ new routes in the current fiscal year. The airline recently earned the title of ‘Best Airline in India and South Asia’ at the 2025 Skytrax World Airline Awards and continues to champion inclusive hiring practices across its workforce.
