Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Sikkim to Resume After Five-Year Pause

May 19, 2025

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is set to resume in June 2025 via the Nathula Pass in Sikkim, after a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and India-China border tensions. This sacred pilgrimage, significant to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers, leads to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in Tibet.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has announced that the 2025 Yatra will be conducted through two traditional routes: five batches of 50 pilgrims each via Uttarakhand’s Lipulekh Pass, and ten batches of 50 pilgrims each via Sikkim’s Nathula Pass.

Preparations are underway to ensure pilgrims’ safety and well-being, including infrastructure improvements and medical facilities along the route. The reopening of the Nathula route is expected to boost local tourism and economy in Sikkim.

This revival of the Yatra marks a significant step in offering devotees an opportunity to undertake this revered journey once again.
