Lucknow is set to introduce India’s first urban night safari at the Kukrail Forest Area, transforming the city’s green belt into a major eco-tourism destination. Inspired by Singapore’s model, the initiative aims to provide structured nocturnal wildlife experiences within an urban setting while maintaining conservation priorities.
The Kukrail Night Safari will allow visitors to observe nocturnal species, complementing existing crocodile, gharial, and turtle sanctuaries. Upgrades to the forest area include nature trails, bamboo huts for rest and guided activities, a children’s park with adventure play stations, an open gym, a cafeteria, and enhanced parking and toilet facilities. These additions are designed to improve accessibility and visitor experience without disturbing wildlife.
The Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Board is investing around ₹2 crore to develop these amenities, focusing on sustainable materials and controlled access. The project is expected to promote urban eco-tourism, create local employment, and increase public engagement with wildlife conservation. Facilities are expected to be ready for visitors in the early months of the new year, positioning Lucknow as a unique destination for nocturnal wildlife experiences.
