Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) can now complete and submit their e-Arrival forms online up to 72 hours before arriving in India, streamlining the entry process. The facility is available on:
- boi.gov.in
- indianvisaonline.gov.in
- ‘Indian Visa Su-Swagatam’ mobile app.
Previously, travellers were required to fill out physical forms distributed on flights. While the new digital process aims to ease procedures, the option to fill physical forms will remain available for up to six months, or until further notice.
Introduced in 2005, the OCI scheme allows persons of Indian origin, except those who are or have been citizens of Pakistan or Bangladesh, to enjoy benefits such as visa-free travel, residency rights, and access to social, economic, and educational opportunities in India.
Applicants registering for a new OCI card must appear for a personal interview, though children below 12 years are exempt. After online submission, only original documents are required for verification; printouts are no longer necessary.
The initiative marks another step in India’s efforts to simplify travel formalities for its diaspora, making visits to the country more seamless and accessible.
