The Assam cabinet has approved Silchar’s first five-star hotel, to be developed by Polo Hotels Group with an investment of approximately ₹103 crore. The project marks a significant step in bringing international-standard luxury hospitality to the Barak Valley, a region that has long lacked premium infrastructure to support high-value travel and corporate events.
The property will feature 100 rooms and suites alongside speciality restaurants, a resort-style pool, spa, fitness centre, and dedicated conference and banquet spaces, positioning Silchar to host national-level summits, exhibitions, and destination events for the first time.
The Silchar hotel is part of a wider expansion drive by Polo Hotels Group, which is simultaneously developing 10 additional properties across Meghalaya, Tripura, West Bengal, and Nagaland, cementing its standing as one of Northeast India’s largest hospitality operators.
Beyond tourism, the project is expected to generate meaningful local employment and support businesses across the Barak Valley. With India’s domestic tourism surpassing 2.3 billion visits in 2023 and MICE demand growing steadily in regional cities, Silchar’s timing looks well-placed.
