Starting October 15, Sri Lanka will require all international visitors arriving for tourism to secure an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to their journey. The measure, announced by the Sri Lankan government, is intended to simplify entry procedures while strengthening border security.
The ETA system, already in use in several destinations worldwide, allows travelers to apply for authorization online before departure. Officials emphasize that completing the application in advance will help reduce waiting times at entry points and ensure smoother arrivals for foreign nationals.
Tourists are urged to submit their applications through the official portal, www.eta.gov.lk
before boarding flights to Sri Lanka. Once approved, the ETA will permit entry into the country for leisure travel, aligning with Sri Lanka’s broader goal of making its tourism infrastructure more efficient and visitor-friendly.
With its pristine beaches, cultural heritage sites, and lush landscapes, Sri Lanka has seen a steady recovery in tourist arrivals post-pandemic. The introduction of the ETA requirement is seen as a step toward balancing open access with enhanced security. Authorities have assured that the process is quick, user-friendly, and designed to support the country’s growing reputation as a safe, world-class travel destination.
