UP Government Sets December Deadline for Completion of Varanasi Ropeway Stations

December 29, 2025

The Uttar Pradesh government has directed authorities to complete construction work on all five stations of the Varanasi Ropeway Project by 31 December, marking a key milestone for one of the state’s most anticipated urban mobility initiatives. Spanning 3.8 kilometres, the ropeway will connect Varanasi Junction to Godaulia, with intermediate stations at Vidyapeeth and Rath Yatra.

According to Varanasi Development Authority Vice Chairman Purna Borah, construction across all stations is progressing steadily, with Godaulia functioning as a technical station where final-phase work is currently underway. Officials have been instructed to closely monitor progress and ensure timely completion without compromising construction quality.

The project comprises five stations and 29 towers, developed at a total cost of ₹815.58 crore, which includes 25 years of operation and maintenance. Designed with European-standard safety systems, the ropeway is expected to ease congestion in the city’s dense urban core.

In addition to serving as a modern public transport solution for Kashi, the project will offer over two lakh square feet of commercial space across four stations. Authorities believe the ropeway will significantly boost tourism, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to the city’s long-term economic growth.
