Indian tourists visiting Malaysia will soon be able to pay local merchants directly through their regular UPI apps, thanks to a new partnership between Razorpay’s Malaysian arm, Curlec, and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). Announced at the Global Fintech Fest 2025, the collaboration will allow instant transactions in Malaysian Ringgit without requiring international cards.
Under the arrangement, Malaysian businesses will be able to accept UPI payments seamlessly, with Razorpay Curlec offering local settlement in Ringgit and no need for additional system integrations. The move is expected to simplify cross-border payments, reduce dependence on cash, and lower forex-related costs for travellers.
The partnership comes amid a steady rise in Indian travel to Malaysia. In 2024, the number of Indian visitors crossed one million, with overall spending surging significantly. A familiar and low-friction payment option is now set to enhance the travel experience while opening new revenue streams for Malaysian merchants.
The initiative is also part of India’s broader push to expand its real-time payments ecosystem globally. With UPI processing nearly 20 billion transactions in September 2025, Razorpay intends to leverage this scale by extending trusted, real-time digital payments to international markets through Curlec.
