Madhya Pradesh Establishes Its 25th Wildlife Sanctuary Named After Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Abhyaran

The Madhya Pradesh government has officially declared a new wildlife sanctuary spanning 258.64 sq km in Sagar district, named in honour of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. The announcement was made ahead of Ambedkar’s 134th birth anniversary on April 14.

This sanctuary, comprising of reserved forests within the North Sagar forest division, including Tehsil Banda and Shahgarh, marks an important addition to the state’s rich tapestry of protected areas. Known for its tiger reserves, Madhya Pradesh now boasts a total of 25 wildlife sanctuaries.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized that the sanctuary will play a vital role in strengthening conservation efforts, preserving biodiversity, and enhancing local ecosystems. Beyond environmental benefits, the sanctuary is expected to stimulate eco-tourism, providing jobs and boosting livelihoods for communities around Sagar.

The establishment of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Abhyaran reflects the state’s ongoing commitment to protecting its natural heritage while honouring a national icon celebrated for his enduring legacy of social justice and equality.
