Red Fort Temporarily Closed Ahead of Independence Day 2025

July 16, 2025

In preparation for India’s Independence Day celebrations, the Red Fort in Delhi will remain closed to the public and general visitors from July 15 to August 15, 2025. This temporary closure is part of standard security and logistical protocols overseen by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in coordination with national agencies.

The closure aims to facilitate official preparations and ensure smooth conduct of the Independence Day event held annually on August 15. While the fort remains an iconic heritage site and major tourist attraction, authorities request cooperation from the public during this period.

This directive has been issued under Rule 5 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1959. The ASI has also directed that online bookings be blocked and requested widespread publicity of the notice to avoid inconvenience to visitors.

Those planning to visit the Red Fort are advised to schedule their trips after August 15.
