The Andaman Islands are set for a remarkable transformation as Aves Island welcomes tourists for the first time, alongside a series of luxury eco-resorts rising across five coveted sites. With this initiative, officials hope to balance world-class tourism with a commitment to environmental preservation, a vision that spotlights the islands’ legendary, untouched beauty.
Aves Island, long off-limits and famed for its coconut groves and coral beds, is the crown jewel of this project. Sprawling across 2.75 hectares near Mayabunder, it will soon feature a 50-room eco-resort, complete with amenities for diving, trekking, camping, and wellness, offering travelers a peaceful, immersive nature escape.
Alongside Aves, new sustainable resorts are in the works on Neil Island, Long Island’s tranquil Lalaji Bay, Smith Island, and at the Megapode Resort in Port Blair. Each destination is chosen for its pristine environment and potential for enriching, low-impact adventure.
The projects, managed by ANIIDCO via a public-private partnership framework, place sustainability at their core: from careful land selection to eco-friendly infrastructure. As the bidding process opens this September, the Andaman Islands are poised to become a beacon of eco-tourism, welcoming responsible travelers while preserving precious island ecosystems for generations to come.
