August 22, 2025

The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts has achieved a key sustainability milestone, with five of its palace properties earning the EDGE Advanced Certification from IFC, a World Bank Group member. Now holding South Asia’s largest portfolio of EDGE Advanced certified hotels, The Leela has set a benchmark in eco-friendly hospitality with a footprint covering 2.41 million square feet.

This recognition highlights The Leela’s “Mindful Luxury” philosophy, placing environmental stewardship at the core of its operations. The brand has implemented climate-smart solutions in design, construction, and daily practices to minimize environmental impact and build resilience against climate risks. Anuraag Bhatnagar, Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the commitment to combine purposeful luxury with responsibility and cultural richness, aiming for Net Zero emissions by 2050.

The certified properties- The Leela Palace Chennai, New Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur, and Bangalore, have surpassed the EDGE Advanced benchmark by achieving more than 41% energy savings, 30% water savings, and up to 70% reduction in embodied carbon from building materials. These initiatives have resulted in total carbon savings of 2,454.44 tCO₂e.

Key energy-saving measures include advanced HVAC systems, smart lighting and controls, and insulated, energy-efficient building envelopes. Water conservation is driven by low-flow fixtures and intelligent irrigation, while a transition to 50% renewable energy supplies is underway. Over half of The Leela’s portfolio is already IGBC Platinum-rated and certified as Net Zero Waste to Landfill.

The Leela’s ongoing commitment to circularity, resource efficiency, and waste reduction positions it as a leader in sustainable luxury hospitality, blending exceptional craftsmanship with meaningful environmental action as it expands its presence in India and worldwide.
