Delhi IGI Airport’s Terminal 2 to Reopen on October 26 After Major Upgrade

September 18, 2025

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is gearing up to welcome travellers back to Terminal 2 (T2) on October 26, following a five-month closure for extensive renovations. The reopening coincides with the winter flight schedule and the capital’s fog season, aiming to ease congestion and improve passenger flow during the busy travel period.

Far from a simple facelift, T2 has undergone a complete overhaul focused on technology and efficiency. The terminal will debut India’s first autonomous docking aerobridges, which automatically align with aircraft doors to speed up boarding and deboarding. Six of these bridges are now operational. Passengers will also benefit from self-baggage drop counters, allowing them to scan boarding passes, tag bags, and proceed to security within minutes.

Safety and comfort have been strengthened with upgraded electrical systems, advanced fire safety measures, and enhanced screening procedures. New signage, high-resolution flight information displays, modern ceilings, skylights, and improved flooring promise a brighter, easier-to-navigate space.

Once reopened, T2 will manage around 120 domestic flights daily, mainly for IndiGo and Air India, helping distribute traffic across terminals. Inclusive facilities for passengers with disabilities and improved airside operations complete what officials call a “complete transformation of the passenger journey.”
