Delhi is set to introduce hot-air balloon rides for the public from November 29, following a successful trial run conducted by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) at Baansera. During testing, the tethered balloon, secured with four ropes, each with a seven-tonne capacity, reached a height of 120 feet while being inspected by the Lieutenant Governor.
Tickets are priced at ₹3,000 per person (excluding taxes), with each ride lasting between 7 and 12 minutes and accommodating up to four passengers. The service will operate four hours daily, with flexibility for extended timings during peak demand.
The DDA has appointed a private agency to operate the balloons across four locations: Yamuna Sports Complex, Commonwealth Games Village, Asita, and Baansera near Sarai Kale Khan. With the prime ballooning season in North India spanning November to February, the initiative is expected to offer residents and tourists panoramic aerial views of Delhi’s riverfront and green corridors, adding a new experiential layer to the city’s tourism landscape.
