March 20, 2026

The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts has announced the acquisition of an ultra-luxury resort near Madikeri in Coorg, marking the brand’s entry into nature-led and wellness-focused hospitality. The property will open later this year as The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary.

Set across 76 acres of landscaped terrain surrounded by coffee and spice plantations in the Western Ghats, the resort currently comprises 71 all-villa accommodations. A first expansion phase is already planned, adding 19 villas to bring total inventory to 90 keys. The property holds IGBC Platinum certification and has been designed to integrate with its natural surroundings, combining contemporary architecture with local craftsmanship.

Key features include a seven-acre lake at the property’s centre, a four-bedroom presidential villa with a private pool, integrated wellness facilities, and a private helipad for direct access. The resort’s proximity to Bengaluru and Mangaluru positions it well for premium leisure demand from South India’s urban centres.

The acquisition coincides with The Leela’s 40th anniversary and brings its global portfolio to 15 properties across 13 cities. The brand has a further nine properties in the pipeline, with expansion planned across Agra, Ranthambore, Srinagar, Sikkim and Jaisalmer among others.
