Akasa Air Expands India’s Regional Aviation Network with Direct Delhi–Gwalior Flights

May 11, 2026

The new route strengthens central India’s accessibility, supporting heritage tourism, business mobility, and the growing demand for seamless regional connectivity across emerging Indian destinations.

Akasa Air has launched direct flights between New Delhi and Gwalior, marking another strategic step in India’s rapidly evolving regional aviation landscape. The new service is expected to improve accessibility to Madhya Pradesh’s historic city while reinforcing the government’s broader vision of strengthening air connectivity beyond metropolitan hubs.

The inaugural flight was virtually flagged off by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, who highlighted the importance of regional routes in accelerating tourism growth, trade opportunities, and local economic development. Operating from Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport, the direct connection significantly reduces travel time between the national capital and one of central India’s most culturally significant destinations.

Known for its imposing hilltop fort, royal heritage, and deep-rooted classical music traditions, Gwalior has long held strong potential for heritage and experiential tourism. Improved air access is expected to encourage higher domestic visitor movement, support hospitality investments, and create new opportunities for curated cultural travel experiences in the Gwalior-Chambal region.

For India’s aviation sector, the route reflects a broader industry trend toward strengthening connectivity to tier-II and tier-III cities, enabling more balanced tourism distribution while unlocking the economic and cultural value of emerging destinations across the country.
