From Temple City to Global Gateway: Bhubaneswar Launches Direct Flights to Abu Dhabi

May 12, 2025

Bhubaneswar is set to soar higher on the global map with the launch of direct flights to Abu Dhabi starting June 2025. Operated by IndiGo Airlines, these non-stop flights will run three times a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—providing seamless connectivity between Odisha’s capital and the UAE’s bustling capital city.

This strategic move comes under the Odisha government’s ambitious Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) scheme, which is part of the broader New Destination Policy-2024. The initiative aims to enhance tourism, trade, and international accessibility, especially for the Odia diaspora residing in Gulf countries.

With an investment of ₹382 crore, the state government is also focusing on boosting aviation infrastructure, including the development of a greenfield airport at Paradip and expansion into 10 new domestic and 3 international routes.

The introduction of the Bhubaneswar-Abu Dhabi route brings the total number of international destinations accessible from Biju Patnaik International Airport to five—joining the ranks of Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Bangkok.

This development is expected to significantly cut travel time, promote economic growth, and transform Bhubaneswar into a key aviation hub in eastern India. Travelers and businesses alike are set to benefit from this enhanced global linkage.
