Sindhudurg Airport Cleared for Round-the-Clock All-Weather Operations

January 5, 2026

Sindhudurg Airport in Maharashtra’s Konkan region has received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for 24×7 all-weather operations, significantly enhancing its operational capability. The clearance allows aircraft movements during low visibility and adverse weather conditions, improving reliability for airlines and passengers alike.

Operational since October 2021 and managed by IRB Infrastructure Developers, the airport has now been certified for Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). This enables safer aircraft operations in challenging weather through the use of satellite-based Required Navigation Performance (RNP) procedures, supported by the availability of a non-satellite backup navigation aid. Together, these systems provide precise instrument approach guidance and ensure dependable landings throughout the year.

The development is expected to boost airline confidence and support sustained traffic growth, while contributing to tourism and economic activity across the Konkan belt. Passenger demand has already shown an upward trend, with the airport recording close to 11,000 passenger movements in December for the first time. To support this growth, aircraft parking capacity has been expanded from three to six stands.

Further connectivity gains are anticipated with the expected launch of the Mumbai–Sindhudurg route under the state’s regional connectivity scheme in the coming months.
