At 12,000 feet in Mane Village between Tabo and Kaza, within Spiti’s Cold Desert Biosphere, The Doksa emerges as a thoughtful high-altitude farm stay shaped by land, climate and community. Now part of the RARE India collective, it reflects a future-forward approach to hospitality in one of India’s most fragile mountain regions.
Open from mid-May, The Doksa invites unhurried stays of at least three nights, allowing travellers to absorb the shifting light and rhythms of the valley. Designed by Windows to Vernacular, its rammed-earth walls, local stone, passive solar gain and snowmelt-harvesting butterfly roof respond intuitively to Spiti’s extreme climate.
The ten rooms offer warmth through earth construction, central heating and expansive windows framing the Manirang massif. Seasonal meals, village walks, monastery visits and stargazing foster deeper connections, while its low-impact design and community ties make The Doksa a benchmark for responsible tourism in the high Himalaya.
