Four IAF-Controlled Airports in India to Face Temporary Closures in 2026

April 7, 2026

Civilian flight operations at four Indian Air Force-controlled airports will face temporary disruptions this year as runway recarpeting work gets underway. The affected airports are Jodhpur, Srinagar, Pune and Adampur, all of which are joint-use facilities serving both military and civilian traffic.

Jodhpur is the first to be impacted, with civilian operations suspended from March 29 to April 27. The recarpeting is being carried out in three phases, with the final phase expected to conclude by May. Airlines including IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express have already suspended bookings beyond March 28 for this route.

Srinagar, which has already seen daytime-only restrictions since April 6 due to ongoing runway upgradation, will face additional weekend closures from August through mid-October. Pune is also scheduled for runway renovation later in the year, though exact dates are yet to be announced. Adampur air base in Punjab will undergo runway work after November.

The maintenance is driven by the stricter technical standards required for fighter aircraft operations, making periodic resurfacing essential at joint-use facilities.
