India’s latest infrastructure milestone is set to transform travel to Uttarakhand. The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, spanning 210 kilometres from Akshardham in Delhi to Dehradun, is scheduled to open on April 14, 2026, with an inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The six-lane, access-controlled corridor reduces travel time between the two cities from over six hours to approximately 2.5 hours. The route passes through several towns in Uttar Pradesh, including Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur, and includes a 50.7-km link to Haridwar, with seamless connectivity to the Char Dham Highway.
Built at an estimated cost of ₹12,000 crore, the expressway features seven interchanges, ten major bridges, and 14 wayside amenities. A 12-km elevated section through Rajaji National Park has been designed to allow unrestricted wildlife movement, complemented by two elephant underpasses and six dedicated animal crossings.
For travellers heading to Uttarakhand’s hill stations, pilgrimage circuits, and national parks, the expressway significantly improves access from Delhi.
