Nepal has moved quickly to counter reports suggesting it had imposed new restrictions on Indian tourists, calling the claims entirely false and misleading. The Nepal Tourism Board issued a formal statement expressing concern over inaccurate information circulating across media and online platforms.
Specific claims that Nepal had introduced mandatory identity card requirements at the border, capped Indian tourist stays at 30 days, or authorised vehicle confiscation for overstays were all firmly denied. The Board confirmed that no new policy restricting the duration of stay has been introduced, and that the longstanding open-border arrangements between the two countries remain fully intact.
What has changed, the Board clarified, is the introduction of a new digital facilitation system for foreign vehicles entering Nepal via land routes. Developed by the Department of Customs, the platform allows travellers to complete temporary vehicle entry permits and revenue payments online, a move designed to reduce border delays and improve the overall experience.
Nepal reaffirmed its commitment to smooth cross-border travel and stressed that its ties with India, spanning people-to-people relations, cultural connections, and tourism cooperation, remain as strong as ever.
