The Ganga Expressway, stretching 594 km between Meerut and Prayagraj, is now open, reshaping travel across Uttar Pradesh in a meaningful way. What once took 10 to 12 hours by road can now be covered in around six, making same-day travel across the state a realistic proposition.
Built as a greenfield project, it is the longest expressway in Uttar Pradesh and among the longest in India. The corridor passes through 12 districts, threading together farming belts, industrial zones, and smaller towns that have historically sat outside major transport routes.
The six-lane, access-controlled highway has a design speed of 120 kmph, with provision to expand to eight lanes. Standout infrastructure includes a 3.5 km airstrip for emergency landings, trauma centres, modern interchanges, and EV charging stations.
The project was built at an estimated cost of Rs 36,000 crore by Adani Group and IRB Infrastructure.
Toll for a full one-way car journey is expected to fall between Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,800. Beyond commuters, the expressway is projected to connect over 500 villages and generate up to three lakh jobs, with industrial and warehousing development likely to follow along the corridor.
