Air connectivity in Northeast India received a major boost with the launch of daily direct flights between Agartala and Bagdogra on October 26, and the resumption of Agartala–Silchar flights after nearly three decades.
The inaugural Air India Express service departed Agartala at 6:10 p.m. and landed in Bagdogra at 7:20 p.m., marking the start of a convenient link between Tripura and North Bengal. The route is expected to strengthen regional tourism and trade, cutting down the traditional 24-hour, 1,200 km train journey to under two hours.
In another development, IndiGo will reconnect Agartala and Silchar with twice-weekly flights every Tuesday and Friday beginning October 28, reviving a service that was discontinued in the 1990s.
With these additions, Agartala Airport now enjoys direct air connectivity to 10 major destinations, including Delhi, Kolkata, Imphal, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, further integrating the northeastern region with key economic and cultural hubs across India.
