Delhi’s Yamuna River Cruise Project Nears Completion After High-Level Review

November 21, 2025

Delhi’s upcoming Yamuna boat tourism project has moved a step closer to launch, with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Lt. Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra reviewing progress at the site. The project aims to introduce leisure cruises and short-distance ferry services along the capital’s stretch of the river.

Located upstream of the Wazirabad Barrage, the initiative covers the 6–7 km circuit between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur and is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹20 crore. The stretch has been designated as part of National Waterway 110, which runs from Delhi’s Jagatpur to Prayagraj.

Officials said the project is designed to enhance river-based tourism, support eco-friendly mobility, and integrate modern water transport into the city. The corridor will feature electric–solar hybrid vessels carrying 30–40 passengers, with safety gear and onboard communication systems.

Two floating jetties have already been deployed at Sonia Vihar, and plans include parking facilities, basic amenities, and leisure zones along the banks. The initiative forms part of a wider push to revive inland waterways and develop sustainable urban tourism in Delhi.
