Uttarakhand is set to introduce a ‘Snow Leopard Tour’ as part of a broader winter tourism initiative aimed at promoting adventure, wildlife, and cultural experiences across the state. The initiative seeks to strengthen local economies by supporting homestays, local guides, and adventure activities in border regions.
The winter tourism action plan includes adventure sports like skiing, trekking, paragliding, and rappelling in destinations such as Auli, Khalia Top, and Bednidhar. Winter carnivals will be organised in Mussoorie, Nainital, and Uttarkashi, while Rishikesh will host an International Yoga Festival. Wildlife tourism activities will be expanded in Jim Corbett, Nandaur, and Gangotri, alongside snow leopard sightings, helicopter skiing, and the Himalayan Car Rally.
The state government is also prioritising infrastructure upgrades. District Magistrates have been instructed to restore roads, hotels, and facilities at major tourist destinations. Officials from Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam and Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam are ensuring arrangements are ready by December 20, while the chief minister will personally inspect key routes.
In addition, a ‘One District–One Festival’ initiative will highlight unique cultural identities across districts, complemented by an international-level festival to showcase Uttarakhand’s winter tourism offerings. The government is also focusing on projects like the development of the Saryu Corridor, the Saryu origin point in Bageshwar, and the beautification of the Rahu Temple in Paithani, Pauri, enhancing both tourism and local heritage.
