Forest authorities have introduced a nationwide restriction on carrying and using mobile phones during safari drives across several of India’s major tiger reserves, marking a significant shift in park regulations. The move aims to minimise disturbance to wildlife and ensure stricter adherence to conservation norms.
The ban applies to prominent reserves including Ranthambhore National Park, Bandhavgarh National Park, Kanha National Park, Pench National Park, Satpura National Park, Panna National Park, Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, and Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary. While Tadoba and Umred have enforced the rule for some time, other central Indian parks have now followed suit.
Under the directive, safari drivers and forest guides may carry mobile phones strictly for emergency use. Visitors are prohibited from carrying or using phones inside the park, and mobile photography is not permitted. Cameras, however, remain allowed under existing park guidelines. Authorities have advised that guests be informed in advance to plan their safari experiences accordingly.
