The Rumi Darwaza, a historic gem of Lucknow, has reopened after nearly two years of extensive restoration work. Built in 1784 by Nawab Asaf-Ud-Daula, this 80-foot-tall gate was meticulously restored using traditional materials and methods, including surkhi, lime, mortar, and natural adhesives. The Rs 50 lakh restoration addressed severe damage and used new techniques to preserve its Nawabi-era charm. Though the gate is now open, vehicular access remains restricted to protect the structure. Heritage enthusiasts have praised the restoration, celebrating its successful preservation of historical integrity while accommodating modern needs and visitor safety.
