Nagaland Opens Kohima’s First Five-Star Hotel

November 3, 2026

Nagaland has inaugurated its first five-star hotel, Polo Hotel Kohima, marking a significant step towards strengthening the state’s tourism and hospitality sector. Governor Nand Kishore Yadav formally opened the property ahead of the Hornbill Festival 2026, beginning December 1.

The new hotel is expected to improve accommodation options for visitors while supporting tourism-led employment and local entrepreneurship. Kohima’s cultural heritage, scenic surroundings and historical significance offer opportunities to attract leisure travellers, cultural enthusiasts and business visitors.

Highlighting the importance of the hospitality development, the Governor encouraged the hotel management to work closely with local artisans, farmers, food producers and entrepreneurs. He also stressed the inclusion of traditional cuisine, indigenous art, locally sourced products and regional talent in the hotel’s operations.

The opening comes at an important time for Nagaland, as the annual Hornbill Festival draws attention to the state’s traditions, crafts, music and cultural diversity. Beyond the festival, the development is expected to support efforts to position Nagaland as a year-round tourism destination while ensuring local communities benefit from the sector’s growth.
