India-Gulf Flights Resume as Gulf Airspace Reopens

June 30, 2025

Following a brief suspension due to heightened tensions in the Middle East, major Indian carriers like Air India, Air India Express, and IndiGo have begun resuming flights to the Gulf, Europe, and North America, alongside regional airlines like Qatar Airways.

Airspace over Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain was closed on Monday amid escalating tensions after Iran launched missile strikes on a US base in Qatar. The closures caused widespread disruption across several international routes.

With signs of geopolitical de-escalation, operations are gradually returning to normal. Air India announced a phased resumption of services to the Middle East and Europe, with full restoration expected by June 25. Services to the US and Canada will also resume soon, though some may remain subject to delays or rerouting based on ongoing security assessments.

Air India Express has restarted flights to Muscat and will add connections to Riyadh, Jeddah, and various UAE cities starting Wednesday.

IndiGo confirmed operations to and from the Gulf are ongoing, though Iranian airspace remains restricted for now. Airlines continue to monitor the situation to avoid routes deemed unsafe.
