Uttar Pradesh to Establish Two New Rhino Rehabilitation Areas in Dudhwa

June 23, 2025

In a significant move to enhance wildlife conservation, Uttar Pradesh has approved the development of two new Rhino Rehabilitation Areas (RRA-3 and RRA-4) in Dudhwa National Park, Lakhimpur. Backed by a budget allocation of ₹1.5 crore, the initiative aims to protect rhinos and other endangered species in the Terai region.

The project, spearheaded by the Forest and Wildlife Department, will focus on habitat preservation, rhino monitoring, and anti-poaching efforts. The funds will support essential equipment, medicines, and training for forest personnel, while also promoting community awareness programmes to engage locals in conservation.

Modelled after the earlier RRA-1 and RRA-2 centres, these semi-wild enclosures allow rhinos to be monitored closely while adapting to their natural environment. In addition to rhinos, the initiative is expected to benefit other vulnerable species within Dudhwa National Park.

With a dual focus on biodiversity preservation and curbing illegal wildlife trade, this project under the Yogi Adityanath government represents a long-term commitment to sustainable wildlife protection and ecological balance in Uttar Pradesh.
