In a major step toward heritage tourism development, the Government of Tripura has partnered with Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), a Tata Group enterprise, to transform the historic Pushpabanta Palace into a five-star Taj heritage hotel. This initiative is set to boost tourism and create local employment opportunities.
Originally built in 1917 by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Bahadur, the Pushpabanta Palace is a symbol of Tripura’s royal past. The upcoming luxury hotel will blend regal architecture with contemporary amenities, featuring 104 rooms, including four opulent suites housed within the restored palace, and additional rooms in a new adjoining structure.
The redevelopment project, with an estimated cost of ₹250 crore, includes financial incentives from the state—such as a 30% capital investment subsidy (up to ₹40 crore) and full GST reimbursement for 15 years. This ambitious project is expected to create over 200 direct jobs, prioritizing local hiring to uplift the regional economy.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the significance of this initiative in placing Tripura on the global tourism map. With completion targeted in two years, the Taj Pushpabanta Palace promises to offer visitors a grand experience steeped in history, elegance, and authentic northeastern hospitality.
