Himachal Pradesh Launches Heli Taxi Services Linking Shimla with Key Hill and Urban Centres

January 27, 2026

The Himachal Pradesh government has inaugurated long-awaited heli taxi services connecting Shimla with Kullu, Reckong Peo, and Chandigarh, significantly strengthening regional air connectivity. The services were flagged off from the Sanjauli Heliport by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Operated under the Centre’s UDAN scheme in partnership with Heritage Aviation, the heli taxis aim to improve access to hilly and remote districts while giving a fresh push to tourism. The Chief Minister indicated that tourism remains a core priority for the state, with a focus on building infrastructure that is both functional and economically productive.

He also noted that the Sanjauli Heliport, originally initiated during the tenure of Virbhadra Singh, was completed after years of delay through coordinated efforts with civil aviation authorities. Officials said the new service is expected to reduce travel time, support local employment, and enhance connectivity to tribal regions.
