Bajrang Setu, billed as India’s first glass-floor suspension bridge over the Ganga, is nearing completion in Rishikesh. Located close to the historic Laxman Jhula, the 132-metre structure is currently undergoing technical assessments ahead of its public opening.
The bridge features glass-panelled pedestrian walkways on either side and a central lane for light vehicles, offering visitors unobstructed views of the river below while also improving connectivity between the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway and the Yamkeshwar area.
The project carries added significance given that Laxman Jhula has been closed since 2022 due to safety concerns, disrupting movement for pilgrims and tourists alike. Bajrang Setu is expected to ease those pressures while also drawing fresh footfall to the area.
Built at an estimated cost of Rs 70 crore, the bridge is seen as a timely development for a town that continues to attract large numbers of adventure travellers and pilgrims each year.
