South Asia’s First Integrated Resort ‘City of Dreams Sri Lanka’ to Open in August 2025

June 30, 2025

In a milestone moment for Sri Lanka’s tourism landscape, City of Dreams Sri Lanka will officially open its doors on August 2, 2025. The resort is being launched as a joint venture between John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) and Melco Resorts & Entertainment, representing a landmark USD 1.2 billion investment — the largest of its kind in the country’s luxury sector.

Positioned at the heart of Colombo, the resort combines upscale accommodation, retail, entertainment, and business infrastructure in one seamless destination. This marks the completion of the final phase of the integrated development, which includes the launch of the Nüwa Hotel, a world-class casino, and a premium shopping promenade.

The property comprises 800 rooms and suites, including the Cinnamon Life Hotel, which began operations in late 2024, and the newly opened Nüwa Hotel, a high-end offering under Melco’s luxury portfolio. The complex also features expansive MICE facilities, tailored for international conventions and large-scale events.

Melco’s gaming experience takes centre stage with a casino built to global standards, expected to draw regional and international travellers alike. Complementing this are fine-dining restaurants led by award-winning chefs, immersive entertainment spaces, and a curated mix of luxury retail outlets.

Speaking on the development, Krishan Balendra, Chairperson of JKH, noted that the project is the realisation of a long-term vision for Colombo’s transformation into a lifestyle and business hub. “This initiative reflects our belief in Sri Lanka’s future, and our commitment to reshaping its tourism economy,” he said.

Lawrence Ho, Chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, echoed this sentiment, calling the project a “transformational opportunity” and a gateway to Sri Lanka’s untapped potential in luxury tourism and entertainment.

Beyond its economic promise — with an expected 20,000 direct and indirect jobs — the resort also underscores sustainability, featuring eco-conscious technologies and a focus on local culture and community engagement.

With its combination of high-end hospitality, integrated business facilities, and entertainment-led tourism, City of Dreams Sri Lanka is poised to redefine Colombo’s global appeal and boost inbound tourism across South Asia.
