Mumbai’s Iconic Gulmurg Reopens At The Shalimar Hotel

June 16, 2026

Gulmurg, the longstanding restaurant at The Shalimar Hotel in Kemps Corner, has reopened following an eighteen-month restoration, marking a new chapter for a space that has anchored South Mumbai’s dining culture since 1962.

The reopening is less a reinvention than a careful continuation. The refreshed interiors, renewed dining programme, and expanded menu have all been approached with the intention of evolving without losing what regulars have valued for over six decades.

Long-standing favourites such as Chicken Makhanwala and Paneer Makhanwala remain, joined by new regional influences and seasonal additions that build on the restaurant’s identity rather than replace it.

The restaurant carries a three-generation family legacy, now led by Yash Advani, who takes over from his father, D.S. Advani, chairman and managing director of The Shalimar Hotel. For the family, Gulmurg has always represented more than a business: a place where milestones were celebrated, and people felt they belonged, a feeling the latest generation has prioritised preserving through the restoration.

More than sixty years on, Gulmurg continues to offer what it always has, comforting food, warm hospitality, and a sense of familiarity that keeps people coming back.
